DJ Anker was born and raised in a musical family where everyone can play some sort of musical instrument and sing. His father won a big competition when he was 10 years old. (SA’s Klein Heintjie Simons).
The beat drops like anchors.
DJ Anker was 6 years old when his parents got divorced. He was then taken to a Child Home in Durbanville for 1 year. Luckily his mother fought to get him out and put him in a hostel in a small farm town called Bonnievale at the age of 8 where he grew up until he matriculated in 2013. At this time, he was taken into the arms of good hearten families that supported him and wanted to see him make a success of his life.
He then made them proud by becoming the under head boy of his school, preforming well in his academics and sports. DJ Anker got his first guitar when he was 16. This is the time he discovered his love for music and his talents. He then joined the church band Teens @ Christ (T@X) and another band called “The Young ones”. He played guitar and sang. He gained experience working with sound equipment and setups.
After School he got a bursary in 2014 to go study at CPUT Wellington to become a teacher. He was in Navarre men residence. This is where he got his nickname Anker. He was selected on the HC in 2015 and 2016. He had the social and serenade portfolios. He organized events for students and was playing the music himself. The owner of Bella’s Student Pub saw him a night preforming as DJ and asked him to DJ every Wednesday and Friday nights to earn pocket money. He promoted all the events that took place at Bella’s. He also worked 2 years for a company called ASAP staffing where he served people at weddings.
He graduated in 2017 and started working as a teacher and still DJ’ed part time. He started DJing at Ej’s Paarl every Wednesdays Open mic and Fridays in the box. He also DJ’ed at Opskop Stellenbosch some Saturdays. While working as a teacher and DJ’ing part time he slowly bought professional equipment. He started learning how to DJ weddings by doing gigs with professional wedding DJ’s like DJ Pepe SA and DJ Wico. He started to DJ at weddings himself.
He then realized a South African teaching salary is not enough to get his professional equipment paid off. He then got an opportunity to go work in Qatar, Doha. He then took a teaching job to gain more experience in both teaching and DJ’ing internationally. He DJ’ed at Z Lounge the highest club in Doha on the 61th floor and also at Little Thailand Doha Marriott Hotel.
He started to become more popular and got more than 15 Wedding’s booked ahead for 2020. DJ Anker then finally opened his business as DJ Anker and moved back to Cape Town. DJ Anker is passionate and proud about what he does and the service he brings forward to all his clients. He delivers a service beyond any expectation. DJ Anker is now currently studying to produce music.
